The Fire Industry Association (FIA) is a highly acclaimed not-for-profit trade association promoting the professional status of the UK fire safety industry. They are a great resource for fire safety related events and news, and we are lucky enough to have been mentioned in their 2013 Summer edition of Focus magazine.
The latest edition focuses on UKAS accreditations and how they offer people in need of a comprehensive fire risk assessment a trusted choice of companies who have been recognised as carrying out only the most thorough, quality risk assessments.
The magazine says “The (UKAS) scheme addresses the need for a benchmark that delivers a robust and recognised quality standard that is relevant to building’s use, allowing professionals to deliver meaningful fire risk assessments to ensure improved user safety”
This for sure will give any company using a UKAS accredited service peace of mind that they are receiving only the best fire safety information. Total Fire Services have been externally certified by the National Security Inspectorate (A UKAS product certification) for the BAFE SP205 Life Safety Fire Risk Assessment Scheme and are proud to fall into the league of such competency.
The magazine also focuses on the progress of third party certification within the industry. Here Total Fire Services director Darren Baird has been quoted as saying
“Within a week of being listed on the BAFE SP205 register we were contacted by a hotel chain asking us to tender for fire risk assessment services.
“Before making the investment of time and money in certification we had never been asked if we had third party certification for fire risk assessment services, but with a register, clients are going directly to those who are listed. I don’t want to give away the client’s name but we are currently bidding for a very large project which has specified third party certification and we are using the ‘Guide to choosing a competent fire risk assessor’ to help explain to clients why they should use a certified company”
Issues have previously been brought up about the standard of risk assessments within the fire industry, and this has caused anyone looking for such a service, to research certified, accredited companies who have been recognised for their work. For us here at Total Fire Services, being recognised by associations such as BAFE, UKAS and NSI has paid off and ourfire safety consultants are enjoying working with a whole range of clients.
